I'm new to SABR; how do I join a regional chapter?
One of the greatest resources members have found in SABR is that provided by fellow members. This human connection is what makes SABR so special and differentiates it from so many other member organizations. The national office provides tools and large-scale events, but regional chapter meetings and gatherings are the real building blocks of the SABR community.
Q: How do I join a regional chapter?
A: After you become a SABR member, you'll have access to SABRNation, our interactive home for chapters and committees. You can log in by using your email address and password that you registered with. The login screen looks like this.
You'll go through a one-time welcome process, then taken to what's called the Dashboard. This is where everyone starts; it looks like this.
To find a regional chapter, click here to access the Groups page on SABRNation. Search for the name of a chapter or committee, select its page, then click "Join Group". You can then participate in that group's discussion threads, find out about events, download newsletters or search for other members in the group. You will automatically receive e-mail notifications about the chapter when you join that group. (To modify your settings, click here.)
After you've joined a regional chapter or research committees, you can find them again by going to the Dashboard (sabrnation.sabr.org) and clicking "My Groups" on the left-hand side. That will give you a list of all groups in which you are a member.
Q: How can I find out about upcoming events in my area?
A: You can visit our Events page at SABR.org/events for a calendar of all upcoming events. This page includes information on our annual events, such as the SABR national convention, Analytics Conference, Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference, Frederick Ivor-Campbell 19th Century Base Ball Conference, Arizona Fall League Conference and SABR Day. We also include speaking engagements, book signings, and other events that may be of interest to SABR members. To add an event to our calendar, contact Jacob Pomrenke at jpomrenke@sabr.org.
Q: How can I search for other chapter members in my area?
A: You can search for any fellow SABR member by using our online members directory. Just type in a name, city, state, or e-mail address, then click "search". (You can also search by using partial names -- type in "Sm" under the Last Name field to find anyone named Smith, Smithson, etc.)
Q: How do I use SABRNation?
A: Besides the chapter and committee groups, there are two main discussion groups for all SABR members: one is called SABRNation, for all-purpose baseball discussion — like wandering the hotel lobby during the convention on a daily basis — and the other is called SABR Bulletin, for updates of all the organization's goings-on. Members will also receive an e-mail on Fridays called "This Week in SABR" that contains more information about what's happening in SABR.
Q: There's no regional chapter in my area. Can I start one?
A: Absolutely! It's easy to start a new SABR chapter. Click here to find out how.
