Kiner is leaning in and appears to be conversing with Greenberg on his immediate left. Both players are wearing Pittsburgh Pirates road uniforms, with Kiner wearing light-colored long sleeves and Greenberg wearing a dark collared jacket under his jersey. Kiner is kneeling with his right knee on the ground and his left leg at a 90-degree angle, with his left foot flat on the ground. His left arm is resting on his left leg. He is holding his bat at an angle with his right hand cupped around the barrel, with the end of the bat touching the ground and the handle resting on his left leg. Greenberg is also kneeling, with his right knee on the ground and his left leg at a 90-degree angle, with his left foot flat on the ground. He is looking down at his bat, which he holds in a raised half-swinging position as his left forearm rests on his left leg. A baseball is on the ground behind Greenberg’s left foot, roughly even with his right knee. The stadium is unknown. It appears the photograph is from 1947, Greenberg’s only season with the club and Kiner’s second. That season was also the only one during which the Pirates wore the style of uniform shown in the photo. Three reporters appear in the background on the left of the photo to the far right of the players, with all three gentlemen wearing long overcoats and two of the three wearing hats. Another man with an overcoat and hat is in the dugout behind the players, and a hatless man is standing farther back in the otherwise-empty grandstand. Information written on the physical slide reads, “w/ Hank Greenberg.”
