Connecticut Smoky Joe Wood Chapter holiday party recap - 12/17/2011
Greetings, SABR-ites, and Happy Holidays to all! Over 20 people enjoyed the Conneticut Smoky Joe Wood Chapter holiday party and socializing last Saturday, Dec. 17, at Brothers Restaurant in Wallingford. The consensus seemed to be that we liked the food and atmosphere, and that we would be happy to return there sometime soon. Also, most of the media guides got taken, and I left some for the restaurant, like we did at the Old Dublin Pub. Thanks to Stan and Joe for coordinating a successful event!
National SABR Day is coming up on Saturday, January 28. There seemed to be an agreement that our presence at the West Haven Twilight League's 3rd annual Hot Stove luncheon, from 12 to 3, would be a good way to spend the day. The luncheon and event will cost about $35, and I spoke to Vinnie, at 203-671-0325, about having some time there to talk about what SABR is doing. He agreed, and seems to appreciate our efforts. The event is at the West River Hall, 37 Orlando Street in West Haven. The event will honor Quinnipiac University's baseball coach, Dan Gooley, whom we know, and featured speakers include our own Rich Marazzi and George Grande. It should be a good event, so let's have a good presence there for national SABR Day! Please call Vinnie at the above number to reserve your spot, and mention that you are part of our SABR chapter. I'll let you know more when further details emerge.
I just found out that the New Britain Rock Cats are holding their winter hot stove luncheon on Jan. 19 at 11:30, at the Cromwell Crowne Plaza hotel. I went last year, and it was a good event. so I hope that some of you can go. Please call the Rock Cats at 860-224-8383, for more info.
I asked Larry Levine to reserve our usual space at Quinnipiac for our spring training meeting for the 3rd Sat. in February, which would be Feb. 18. Let's start thinking about presentations for this, so let me know if you have a topic in mind. I will re-invite Doug Gladstone and Marty Dobrow as well.
Again, happy holidays to all, and see you soon!
