SABR Committees Home
The Nineteenth Century Committee, formed in 1983, fosters
research on all facets of early baseball. Completed committee
projects include the compilation of full team and player statistics
for the National Association (1871-1875), and two volumes of
biography: Nineteenth Century Stars and Baseball's First
Stars.
In current projects, committee members are uncovering details
about baseball prior to 1871, compiling a history of the American
Association (1882-1891), and researching nineteenth century rules
and styles of play.
Jim Tootle heads a
focus on vintage baseball, Fred
Ivor-Campbell is Publications Director, and Greg Rhodes compiles Nineteenth
Century Notes, the committee newsletter. Committee electronic
