SABR Committees Home

The Nineteenth Century Committee, formed in 1983, fosters research on all facets of early baseball. Completed committee projects include the compilation of full team and player statistics for the National Association (1871-1875), and two volumes of biography: Nineteenth Century Stars and Baseball's First Stars.

In current projects, committee members are uncovering details about baseball prior to 1871, compiling a history of the American Association (1882-1891), and researching nineteenth century rules and styles of play.

Jim Tootle heads a focus on vintage baseball, Fred Ivor-Campbell is Publications Director, and Greg Rhodes compiles Nineteenth Century Notes, the committee newsletter. Committee electronic coordinator: Paul Wendt.
