Firstman: Glove will keep us together

Its Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, and what better way for the VORG to celebrate it than to examine the “couples” that have lasted the longest on the diamond.

I’m speaking of the batterymates . . . pitchers and catchers.  They have to be able to communicate well, in many different, subtle forms.  The twittering of fingers for signs, the shaking of the head, the nodding in agreement, whispers behind their gloves while they meet on the mound, the pat on the tush for encouragement.  It’s the most intimate relationship on a team.  If it falls apart, 23 others suffer and millions will talk of what went wrong between them.

So, just who survived the “seven-year itch” from 60 feet, 6 inches away?  Here are the batterymates that have been together for at least 100 game starts (along with their first and most recent games).
