"Rare Baseball Films" with Dave Filipi (Columbus, OH)

"Rare Baseball Films"
April 10-11, 2015
Wexner Center for the Arts
Columbus, Ohio

Once again, Dave Filipi of the SABR Hank Gowdy Chapter will be hosting the 12th annual "Rare Baseball Films" event at the Wexner Center for the Arts at 1871 North High Street in Columbus, Ohio. It will be held Friday and Saturday, April 10-11 (7 p.m. start time both nights).

This year, like in 2014, the program draws on newsreels from the Hearst Metrotone News Collection at the UCLA Film & Television Archive.

Before televisions became domestic fixtures, these newsreels allowed fans to watch players from around the country in action—and now they let you relive some of the best moments in the history of the game. Come out and see such greats as Babe Ruth; Willie Mays; Jackie, Brooks, and Frank Robinson; and baseball played by Little Leaguers, on donkeys, in canoes, and more!  Dave also shared that one of the highlights will be two more clips from that Canadian cache that produced the Black Sox clip last year. This ties in well to our upcoming book club discussion on the 1919 World Series.  In addition, he'll have two clips from the 1917 World Series, more Women's League footage, and many good Babe Ruth clips, etc., etc.

Individual Memberships start at just $45/year
