Umpires and Rules Research Committee

By SABR

Welcome to the Umpires and Rules Committee.

The Umpires and Rules Committee was formed in 1988 to study the impact of both on the development of the game. The primary areas of research are the biographical and career records of major league umpires. Committee members in conjunction with Retrosheet are compiling a roster of umpires, by game, by year, and by league. Another project is to document a comprehensive listing of all known ejections, following on the pioneering work of the late Doug Pappas. The committee publishes its newsletter The Right Call twice annually.
