Santelli wins 2014 SABR Analytics Conference Research Award – Contemporary Analysis

James Santelli was announced as the winner of a 2014 SABR Analytics Conference Research Award on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the SABR Analytics Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Santelli was voted as the winner of the Contemporary Baseball Analysis award for his article “Pirates Defensive Shifts: The Hidden Secret Behind Baseball’s Best Team,” published by PiratesProspects.com on July 4, 2013.

Santelli is a senior at the University of Southern California, majoring in Broadcast and Digital Journalism and minoring in Sports Media Studies at the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism. He serves as Associate Sports Director for Annenberg TV News and a Production Intern for Time Warner Cable SportsNet in Los Angeles.

The SABR Analytics Conference Research Awards recognize baseball researchers who have completed the best work of original analysis or commentary during the preceding calendar year.

Voting for the winners was conducted online from January 31-February 17, 2014, at SABR.org, BaseballProspectus.com, FanGraphs.com, HardballTimes.com, and BeyondtheBoxScore.com, with results weighted equally at 20%.
