NEW YORK: Baseball slammer Joe DiMaggio, now a television commentator, still makes a big hit at Yankee Stadium – on his pre-game and post-game shows. Formerly a shy person, Joe has almost discarded his retiring manner under the blaze of television lights, and has easily made the switch from the outfield to world of the working press. Although he steers clear of second-guessing the managers and players on his programs, Joe is now sought out as an “elder statesman” at the ballpark. His judgment on rookies, plays and strategy is highly respected. But Joe can’t sit through a game. “I get restless and just want to walk around,” he says.
