Lou Gehrig Poses with Baseball Bats Before a Game at Yankee Stadium in 1934
Description
A slide of black-and-white full-length photograph of Lou Gehrig standing in front of the dugout holding two bats over his left shoulder. Gehrig is wearing the home uniform of the New York Yankees. He is standing in profile on dirt with his right side visible, and some loose bats are lying on the ground. The photograph is in the daylight. In the background are unknown men sitting in the dugout and the empty grandstand. A photograph caption from outside the collection reads, "First Baseman Of Yankees Lou Gehrig (Original Caption) 7/7/34: Here is Columbia Lou Gehrig, star first baseman and slugger of the league-leading New York Yankees. Gehrig is rapidly supplanting Babe Ruth as the best performer in the American League. In a recent game, he slammed in seven of the eight runs scores [sic]--and this a few days after he had been "beaned." In addition, Lou has run up a new record for the number of consecutive games played."
