Babe Ruth on the Bench 1915 Boston
Description
This image is labeled on the photograph as from 1915. In 1915 Babe Ruth was with the Boston Red Sox of the American League. At this point in his career he was still predominantly a pitcher and finished the season with a record of 18-8. At the plate he carried a .315 batting average with four home runs. The Red Sox won the World Series in 1915 over the Philadelphia Phillies in five games. Ruth only saw action as a pinch hitter in Game Five, where he grounded out. Nine of his teammates can be seen on the bench with him. Many fans are close behind a chain link fence looking towards the game with a wood paneled fence to the right side of the photo. As most of the other players are wearing coats, this may be the pitchers sitting in the bullpen waiting for action.
