A 1978 1948 Bowman reprint baseball card of Marty Marion. The back of card number 40 in the set reads, "40 - Marty Marion Shortstop - St. Louis Cardinals Born : Richburg, S. C. Dec. 1, 1917 Bats : Right Throws : Right Height : 6 : 2 Weight : 170 Tall, thin "Slats," is "Mr. Shortstop" himself. One of game's greatest fielders, Marty is also a dangerous clutch hitter. He first played Organized Baseball in 1936 with Huntington of Mid-Atlantic League-moved up to Rochester for three seasons and then to Cardinals in 1940 as their regular shortstop. His total major league batting average is .266, fielding average, .966. Named National League's Most Valuable Player in 1944, he has been on four All-Star teams.
