D. Bruce Brown selected as 2024 Bob Davids Award winner

D. Bruce Brown is the 2024 SABR Bob Davids Award winner.

D. Bruce Brown was announced as the winner of the Bob Davids Award during the SABR 52 Closing Ceremonies on Saturday, August 10, 2024, in Minneapolis.

The award — which is the Society’s highest honor — honors SABR members whose contributions to SABR and baseball reflect the ingenuity, integrity, and self-sacrifice of the founder and past president of SABR, L. Robert “Bob” Davids.

Brown, a SABR member since 1997, is the former president of the Baltimore Babe Ruth Chapter and Bob Davids Chapter in Washington, DC. He helped organize the annual conventions in 2009 and 2022, and emceed the Trivia Contest at that event for 13 years. With T. Scott Brandon, he has produced and distributed daily baseball trivia questions on an email listserv since 1997.

Brown also served as SABR’s longtime representative, presenting the Lee Allen Award, for National History Day events at the University of Maryland. He is also a past chair of the SABR Collegiate Baseball Committee.

Brown grew up in Orem, Utah, and attended his first game at Candlestick Park in 1961. He graduated from Brigham Young University and also attended George Mason School of Law in Washington, DC. He is the owner of Caber Consulting. He also umpired and officiated amateur baseball, softball, and basketball for many years.

The Bob Davids Award was established by the Board of Directors in 1985, and is awarded each year at the annual convention. Click here to view previous winners.
