Jerome: Lining up for a baseball-themed bucket list
From SABR member David Jerome at the Orange County Register on April 2, 2019:
My baseball bucketlist is very broad – I’m open to almost any new experience that gets me “closer to the game.”
At the end of each year, which also happens to be when my birthday falls on the calendar, Major League Baseball holds an online auction to raise money for its sanctioned charities. Each of the 30 major league teams donates some kind of fan experience for auction.
In 2017, the auction item that peaked my interest was offered by the Texas Rangers and was called “The Ultimate Suite Experience.”
They offered a luxury suite to a regular season game, 20 tickets, an in-suite meet and greet by a former Rangers player, plus one person got to go onto the field before the game and deliver the Rangers line-up card to the visiting team and umpires.
Before the crack of the bat, before the first pitch, even before the national anthem is sung, a baseball game begins with the exchange of the line-up cards at home plate.
