Dana Berry
/in /by Jacob PomrenkeWhile growing up in a small town in Ohio during the 1970s, Dana Berry followed the Cincinnati Reds. He spent many summer days throwing a ball against the family shed while imagining announcers Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall describing his pitching the Big Red Machine to another title. While he was only 6 at the time, Dana remembers that fateful day of November 28, 1978, when Sparky Anderson was fired. Deep inside, he secretly blamed his dad because that was the same day he purchased The Main Spark: Sparky Anderson and the Cincinnati Reds. When not pitching in front of the hometown fans, in his imagination, Dana remembers every Saturday tuning into The Baseball Bunch (with Johnny Bench, Tommy Lasorda, and The San Diego Chicken; followed by This Week in Baseball (hosted by Mel Allen), concluded by The Game of the Week on NBC (broadcast by Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola). Unfortunately for Dana, he never pitched for the Reds. He has spent many years in therapy, blaming his parents for knocking down the shed. Currently, he lives in the same small town, but now with his wife, two dogs, and two cats.
