Ken Reed is sports policy director for League of Fans, a sports reform project started by Ralph Nader. Reed is a long-time sports industry consultant, sports studies instructor, sports columnist and author. He holds a doctorate in sport administration with an emphasis in sport policy. His writings have appeared in a variety of publications, including the New York Times, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, and Denver Post. Reed regularly blogs on sports issues for the Huffington Post. He is the author of the books How We Can Save Sports: A Game Plan, Ego vs. Soul in Sports, Game Changer, and Sara’s Big Challenge. Reed played baseball and basketball at the University of Denver. He continues to believe that the Oakland A’s of the 1970s would’ve been the best baseball dynasty in the history of the game if one Charles O. Finley hadn’t neglected to make an insurance annuity payment to Catfish Hunter, per a stipulation in Hunter’s contract. As a result of Finley’s blunder, Hunter’s contract was terminated and he became a free agent. Finley then proceeded to conduct a wholesale dismantling of a great team still in its prime. A SABR member, Reed lives in Littleton, Colorado.
