Mike Bell
/in /by Jacob PomrenkeWhen Mike Bell was 12 years old, he wrote his first baseball article in 1973 as a budding sportswriter in Southern California. Fifty years later, he has written his first SABR article. Mike’s journalism career was sidetracked by a 42-year stint as a firefighter and 9-1-1 Communications director. Mike grew up watching games at Dodger and Angel Stadiums. He witnessed Mickey Mantle’s 527th career home run in a game against the Angels in 1968. He played a year of college baseball at Cal-Poly Pomona for legendary coach John Scolinos. Mike hosts a podcast called Baseball Journeys, which explores the impact the game has had on people who have played or been associated with baseball at any level.
