2004 Lee Allen Award Winner
Corissa Westergard, Shelby Johnson, and Mackenzie Heyl of Davenport, IA, were the winners of the 2004 Lee Allen History of Baseball Award for their project, Girls of Summer: Paving the Way for Women in All Seasons.
The project included months of research including interviews with several women from the AAGPBL. Westergard, Johnson and Heyl also had the opportunity to travel to the Peaches museum in Rockford, IL. Over 100 resources, including 70 primary sources, were used.
All three winners were from Akron-Westfield community schools and their teachers were Valorie Philips and Colleen Westergard.
