Bianca Smith became the first African-American woman to serve as a professional baseball coach when she was hired by the Boston Red Sox in December 2020. She served as a minor league coach at the Red Sox complex in Fort Myers, Florida, for two seasons and now works in Japan as a Sports Exchange Advisor with the JET Program in Higashikawa, Hokkaido. After graduating from Dartmouth College, where she played varsity softball and club baseball, Bianca pursued her dual JD/MBA at Case Western Reserve University, where she also worked as the Director of Baseball Operations. Previously, she worked in Baseball Operations for the Texas Rangers and the Cincinnati Reds, in Amateur Administration at the MLB’s Commissioner’s Office, as an assistant baseball coach for the University of Dallas, and as a youth baseball and softball coach for the Rangers, Reds, and Milwaukee Brewers Academies.
