Boston Chapter meeting recap – 10/25/2025

SABR Boston Chapter meet-up on October 25, 2025

About a half-dozen SABR Boston Chapter members took advantage of a New England autumn afternoon to attend a Boston College Eagles “fall ball” baseball scrimmage against Rutgers University on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The event gave chapter members a chance to connect and watch live baseball one more time before winter arrives.

With the help of BC baseball staff, members also enjoyed a chat with BC players Gunnar Johnson, Matthew Spada, John Kwiatkowski, and Carter Hendrickson. Chapter members learned a lot about the BC team’s intense travel schedule (the Eagles play against schools like Cal, Stanford, and Florida State), and about the work and commitment it takes to balance academic demands with participation on a Division I baseball team. The players were friendly, well-spoken, and great representatives of the program and the college. We appreciate their time and participation, as well as the assistance of Nick Jaksa, Director of Operations, Camps and Clinics for the BC baseball program.

As for the action on the field, Rutgers held BC’s bats to only two hits and won the nine-inning opener, 3-0. (Two games were played in order to give playing time to as many players as possible.)

BC had only recently announced its “fall ball” schedule and the event was arranged and announced somewhat hastily. We’re hopeful that potential game gatherings in 2026, with more advance notice, will be better attended. Certainly, those who were able to come enjoyed this one.
