Boston Chapter meeting recap – 6/25/2020
SABR’s Boston Chapter was pleased to have been a co-sponsor of an event via Zoom on June 25, 2020, that attracted 218 participants – the re-launch of the Great Fenway Park Writers Series, featuring host Gordon Edes talking with author John Shea. John is co-author (with Willie Mays!) of the book 24: Life Stories and Lessons from the Say Hey Kid.
Also co-sponsoring the event were the Red Sox Foundation, the BoSox Club, the Pawtucket Red Sox, and the Worcester Red Sox – the WooSox.
It was great to see a number of SABR members from Seattle, California, Ohio, and the New England states.
The energetic discussion featured John, of course, talking about Willie, the book, the several US presidents who were among the interviews he did, and offered the Mays point of view on several matters. Larry Lucchino, former CEO of the Boston Red Sox, joined the discussion as did Red Sox poet laureate Dick Flavin and writer Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe.
