Gardner-Waterman Vermont Chapter meeting recap – 11/18/2018

SABR’s Gardner-Waterman Vermont Chapter had a fun meeting last Sunday, November 18, 2018.

Congratulations to Scott Tipson on winning the 2nd SABR-Vermont Trivia Contest. This meeting’s theme was “Name That Stadium.” Defending champion Chuck McGill finished 2nd and Larry Granillo finished in 3rd place. (If you would like to take a crack at the trivia, just drop me a note at ctrutor@gmail.com and I will send it to you.)

In our mock Hall of Fame election, Edgar Martinez, Roger Clemens, and Mariano Rivera were elected to the Hall of Fame.

We had a fantastic 20th anniversary panel on the Green Mountain Boys of Summer featuring Tom Simon and John Bennett as well as special guests Brian Stevens and Dick Leyden.

Scott Tipson gave a highly informative talk on the history of Dead Ball Era baseball cards.

Tom Wallace showed off his investigative skills in a fascinating discussion of his path to figuring out the exact game featured in his Bill Purdom lithograph of Nomar Garciaparra.

Carl Backman served as the closer for our meeting, presenting on the geography of recent top-draft picks in Major League Baseball.

Our next SABR VT gathering will be a luncheon on Saturday, January 26, 2019, to celebrate SABR Day. More information forthcoming soon.
