Two authors of new books highlighting baseball history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries entertained an audience of 26 SABR members and friends at the Lajoie-Start Southern New England Chapter’s spring meeting on June 7, 2025.

The two authors, Dan Schlossberg (above) and Jeffrey Orens (below), came from their homes in New Jersey to enlighten and amuse the group, meeting at the First Baptist Church in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Schlossberg discoursed at length on Hank Aaron, the subject of his new book Home Run King, the Remarkable Record of Hank Aaron.

Orens talked about the nineteenth-century stars who are the focus of his new book, Selling Baseball: How Superstars George Wright and Albert Spalding Impacted Sports in America.

For the first time in the 40 years the chapter has held meetings, there was a tie for first place in Father Gerry Beirne’s trivia contest: The winners were Ed Tassinari and Dixie Tourangeau.

The chapter’s next meeting will be its traditional Thanksgiving Saturday event, on November 29. Details will be announced soon.
