Larry Dierker Chapter meeting recap – 5/13/2019
On Monday night, May 13, 2019, under ideal conditions, 29 SABR members and guests of SABR’s Larry Dierker Chapter attended a Sugar Land Skeeters baseball game where we were all treated like royalty by the Sugar Land Skeeters baseball staff. We met in the private Insperity Club which included wonderful food and great seats.
Dick Bily invited 9 members of the local Boys and Girls Club to be his guests and they had the time of their lives. Not only did they load up on a fabulous food buffet with tons of ice cream for dessert, they were able to meet Skeeters player John Allen, participate in a trivia contest where everyone was a winner and receive a gift from Dick. The Boys and Girls also had a special visit from the team mascot, Swanson, and were taken on a guided tour of Constellation Field (including the bullpen.)
And, of course, everyone had choice seats from which to watch the game behind home plate.
Unfortunately, the locals came up short on the scoreboard. It should be reported that Skeeters lost two players prior to the game when they were signed by the San Francisco Giants, making a total of seven of their players selected by MLB teams just this year.
