Meeting Notes
June 7, 2025, via Zoom at 3:00 PM EDT
- Attendees: Mark Drucker, Chair, Sam Dolson, Vice Chair, Bobby Salerno, Treasurer, Ken Clawson, Secretary, Steve Nadel, Ed Denta. Levi Fender, Barry Halpern, Anthony Kissel, Sam Abercrombie, Sam Zygner, Johan Martinez, Rebekah Elmore, Bruce Mitrani, Larry Lamedola-Wantagh, Mason Marsh, Rich Klein.
Mark Drucker opened the meeting promptly at 3:00 PM. He thanked all those attending and recognized new members and guests. Mark emphasized openness of the group to accept any presentations they wish to give.
Mark then introduced Chapter member Stave Nadel who conducted a presentation on all-time leaders at each position to receive Gold Gloves. It was an open trivia, quiz show type presentation. In addition to the all-time leaders in wins, he introduced three players tied for second-most in center field and the runner-up at pitcher thanks to his 16 gold glove awards. A couple of questions and a short discussion followed.
Mark then introduced Ken Clawson, also a member. Ken presented on the Spring Training History of St. Petersburg, which is the basis for the monthly Trolley tour conducted in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Museum of History. The highlights of training in ST. Pete by nine different MLB franchises and one AAA franchise over an 89 year span encompassing more than 200 Hall of Famers was presented. A question and answer period followed.
Mark thanked all who attended, announced that monthly zoom meetings would continue through October. In person meetings would be scheduled in November and December.
Ed Denta asked about resuming Pete and Shorty’s get togethers. Mark responded that he would put one together soon.
Ken announced that there should be an in=person event in July at the Tampa Baseball Museum to dedicate a brick that the Chapter purchased.
Mark asked Ken if he would be willing to work with Rick Vaughn on arranging a documentary on St. Pete Spring Training. Mark will arrange the meeting.
Mark will add all attendees to the mailing lists and will invite all to future officer’s meetings.
Mark adjourned the meeting at 4:45 PM.
