A is for Adams
The Babe in ’09
Won three Series games —
He knew when to shine.

“Pirated” away,
Mace Brown, Blass & Burgess:
Killer B’s of their day.

C is for Candy
And Camnitz and Cooper
And for proud Clemente
Roberto was Super.

D is for Dreyfuss
Our great owner, Barney
And also for Danny,
That’s Murtaugh, as in blarney!

E is for Ellis
The redoubtable Dock
When he took the mound
He made the game rock!

F is for Friend
Bob the right-handed ace
And F also stands
For the Fireman, Roy Face.

G is for Greenberg
Big Hank and his Gardens;
To skip Groat and Garms
Would deserve no pardons.

H is for Hot Corner:
Don Hoak and Rich Hebner
And for Harvey Haddix
Whose gem we’ll long treasure.

I‘s for Impossible
The Pirate teams that
Were Battling Bucs
To their final at-bat.

J is for Jake Beckley,
Old Eagle Eye
And J is for Joe Brown
GM and great guy.

K is for Kiner
Ralph was our top gun
When he came to bat
He made Aunt Minnie run!

L is for Long
We cheered Dale’s eight dingers
And for Vernon Law
The Deacon threw zingers.

M is for Maz
Whose play did transcend
And for Meyer and Mizell
Of Vinegar Bend.

N is for Nelson
Our Rocky, and Klu
First base was their domain
With E-3 slugger Stu.

O is for Oliver
Scoop sure swung the Lumber
He did it with Company
They could hit in their slumber.

P is for Phillippe
An earlier Deacon
And for Gunner Prince
Whose voice was a beacon.

Q is for Quality
The Waners had tons
Big Poison and Little
Turned hits into runs.

R is for Rowswell
A Rosey is a Rosey
And R is for Robertson
Bob’s clouts made leads cozy

S is for Stargell
That wonderful Will
And for Sewell whose eephus pitch
Blooped from the hill.

T is for Pie
The gentleman Traynor
Class, grace and style
Never seen plainer.

U‘s for United
As in U.S.A.
Whose anthem we sing
Before we start play.

V is for Vaughan
Arky’s .385
Is tops for all Buccos
Long gone or alive.

W is for Wagner
Honus rated the Hall
For hitting and stealing
And fielding the ball.

X is for Max
(Just turn it around)
Carey was as fleet
As any greyhound.

You must realize
Not all Bucs can be fitted
And forgiveness, please,
For those names omitted.

Z is for Zillions
The number of cheers
Our Pirates have earned
By their feats o’er the years.
