SABR logoMARCH 19, 2026 — SABR is pleased to announce the recipients of Local Grants in 2026:

  • Elysian Fields Chapter (Northern New Jersey)
    From Rube to Robinson: A Traveling Exhibit on the History of Black Baseball
    Funding the planning and development of a traveling exhibit based on the SABR publication, “From Rube to Robinson,” tracing the history of Black baseball since the early 1900s. The exhibit will explore the pivotal roles of Andrew “Rube” Foster and Jackie Robinson, while also honoring other players, managers, and communities that sustained Black baseball. The exhibit is intended to travel with SABR’s annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference and will be made available to schools, libraries, and other cultural institutions throughout the year.
  • Field of Dreams Chapter (Iowa)
    Ballpark Historical Marker in Council Bluffs, IA
    Installing a historical marker on the site of the former Broadway/American Legion Park, where 25 Major Leaguers either played, coached, or publicly attended a game. The marker will include a brief history and photo of the ballpark, a SABR logo, and a QR code for a full historical background. The marker will be located on a newly constructed bike path in a recently revitalized part of town. The chapter will hold a dedication ceremony with special guest speakers on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
  • Halsey Hall Chapter (Minneapolis, MN)
    SABR Scholarship Outreach
    Funding for a chapter table at the Minnesota Council for Social Studies Conference to publicize SABR scholarship opportunities for students.
  • Latino Baseball Research Committee / Bob Davids Mid-Atlantic Chapter (Washington, DC)
    The Latino Baseball Player Podcast
    A new initiative to conduct in-stadium interviews in Spanish with Latino players in the Bob Davids Chapter region, then translating and publishing the interviews in a podcast format. The recordings and transcripts will be made available in both Spanish and English via SABR’s YouTube channel, the Oral History Research Committee, and the Latino Baseball Research Committee.
  • Schott-Pelican Chapter (New Orleans, LA)
    Salute to the Negro Leagues Day
    In conjunction with the Tulane University Athletic Department, the chapter will sponsor a “Salute to the Negro Leagues” Day at a Tulane baseball game at Turchin Stadium on April 25, 2026. The event will raise awareness and understanding of Negro Leagues baseball in the area and honor local players and personalities.

The SABR Local Grants program provides an opportunity for chapters, research committees, and chartered communities to apply for funding for their projects under SABR’s Four Pillars: Research, Scholarship, Preservation, and Future of the Game. In total, $10,000 in SABR Local Grants will be awarded in 2026.
