4 glorious but forgotten MLB pennant races

From SABR member David B. Wilkerson at MarketWatch on October 9, 2012, with mention of SABR member Jacob Pomrenke:

There’s nothing quite like a great Major League Baseball pennant race. Two, three, four teams, fighting it out for a chance to win it all.

Some of the best immediately come to mind if you’re a real baseball fan: The 1951 National League race. The 1967 American League. The 1978 AL East. The 1964 National League.

There are other compelling races, however, some more famous than others, that tend to be overlooked when people gather to discuss the great ones. Possibly the winning team had won a lot of pennants around the same time, so everyone just lumped that year along with others. Maybe a more storied race occurred the previous year or the year after, so that fewer people think of it.

Whatever the reason, here are four glorious pennant races that you may have forgotten, in reverse chronological order, as suggested by baseball historian and writer Jacob Pomrenke, who serves as web editor for the Society for American Baseball Research.
