Carleton: Baseball’s sign-stealing scandal could happen again

The baseball big data dystopia has arrived, and its herald was a garbage can. Unlike a breaking ball at Minute Maid Field, few saw it coming, but here we are. For those who are a little burnt out on coverage of the Astros sign-stealing scandal—the broad outlines of which have now been publicly confessed to, if only marginally apologized for—and the thousands of trashy puns it spawned, I can’t say that I blame you. This isn’t a tell-all piece about something (else) the Astros or any other team did. I have no information on any of that. I’m just here to connect a few dots.
I need to tell you the awful truth: This could very easily happen again.
