Coming soon: Third course in SABR Analytics Certification program

SEPTEMBER 1, 2023 — We’re excited to announce that in the coming weeks, we will introduce the newest course in the SABR Analytics Certification program, Level Three – Introduction to Baseball Programming.

Providing an introduction to programming using a practical approach in its application for baseball and focusing on R (with a dash of SQL) as a programming language, the goal of this online, on-demand course is to give learners a foundational understanding of the technical skills necessary for a career in data science and baseball analytics. The course includes topics such as data manipulation, visualization, and statistical models, and culminates with a final assignment that challenges learners to generate their own player performance projection that can be compared to other forecasts and used in building a personal portfolio.

The new course is instructed by Rob Arthur, SABR member and data scientist who has consulted for three MLB teams, nonprofits, law firms, and a Fortune 500 company. His journalistic work has appeared in VICE News, Slate, Baseball Prospectus, FiveThirtyEight, and The Atlantic

SABR’s first two certification courses, Level One – Conversational Analytics and Critical Thinking in Baseball and Level Two – Advanced Analytics in Baseball, are available online now.
