Dick Schattinger’s brief listing in the current SABR Membership Directory fails to reveal the richness of his National Pastime experience.  But for SABR’s publication of The Fenway Project, Dick’s involvement would have remained shared only among family and close friends.  Although a native Californian, Dick welcomed the receipt of this east coast SABR research initiative with a particular relish.  As he leafed through the pages of the publication, he noted a number of passages referencing Boston‘s long-departed Braves along with the fact that a Boston Braves Historical Association was active in the area.  Taking pen in hand, Dick wrote to this Project contributor to reveal the reason for his interest in a team that consistently resided in the National League’s second division and habitually suffered from anemic hometown fan support
