Ferkovich: The baseball book that changed my life

I write about baseball a lot.
I write about the history of the game and the players whose names resonate down through the generations.
As a baseball researcher, one of my go-to websites is Baseball-Reference.com. It’s not just a convenience. It’s a necessity.
Let’s face it, there are times when a student of the game just needs to know some obscure fact, and needs it now. Like how many teams Tommy Davis played for in his career (it’s 10). Or how many games Milt Wilcox won in 1984 (17). Or who the losing pitcher was in Game 2 of the 1907 World Series (George Mullin).
If you’re reading this article, you’re most likely a baseball history buff, like me. Haven’t we all been there? Haven’t we all had those moments?
And what do we do in such times of crisis? We look things up on the Internet, of course. On our cell phones! It doesn’t matter where we are, whether at the dentist’s office or in line at the deli. John Lennon said all we need is love, but all we really need is Wi-Fi.
