Goldman: Re-opening Day may come a day too soon

“Welcome to the first game of the 2020 major league baseball season coming to you live from Magical Thinking Stadium in Florida. We’ll be back with the lineups once all the players have passed their temperature checks.”
According to several published reports, Major League Baseball sees the arc of current events edging the above scenario closer to realization, but there’s a danger that what we’re experiencing is a false dawn and we will turn out to be further away from baseball than ever.
This week has provided yet more proof that the game does not exist on its own plane of reality but sits at the intersection of politics and public health.
