Goodman: Rockford chosen to be home to new International Women’s Baseball Center

From Doug Goodman at the Rockford Register Star on March 13, 2017:

The process has begun to convert a site next to Rockford’s Beyer Stadium into the new home of the International Women’s Baseball Center. However, it will be a slow process.

“We are not in a position at this point where we would put time constraints on it,” said Dr. Kat Williams, IWBC president. “I would like to say in the next year we are going to be done, but that is not going to happen.”

About four years ago, the IWBC was formed with the goal of preserving and promoting women’s baseball. The nationwide nonprofit organization was based in California but didn’t have a bricks-and-mortar home.

Two years ago, the group found that home in Rockford on donated property at 245 15th Ave. The IWBC is figuring out how best to use the space.

“This will happen in stages,” Williams said.

The center will be a multi-use facility, which will include an interactive museum highlighting girls and women’s baseball.
