Gorton: Film to chronicle life of Negro Leagues great John Donaldson

I was asked to look up the career of John Donaldson for a book project called “Swinging for the Fences: Black Baseball in Minnesota.”
When I first started I had never heard of him, even though he had starred on the diamond of my hometown some 75-years before.
As the years have passed nearly everyone I asked about him did not recognize his name. There were a few who had heard the name John Donaldson; my goal was to ensure there would be more.
My daily quest would lead to stories of greatness on the segregated diamonds of over 550 cities in North America stretching from coast to coast. Now, seventeen years have passed and we are just beginning to see how the baseball life of John Wesley Donaldson was forgotten and how only now his legacy can be restored.
