The Hanlan's Point SABR Chapter will hold its next meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the Wallace Gastropub (2nd floor), 1954 Yonge Street in Toronto. All baseball fans are welcome to attend.
Registration is free, but please RSVP at Eventbrite.ca if you plan to attend.
Our guest speaker will be David Yorke, a 45-year, award-winning veteran of the film/TV production business, and a graduate of the Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring. As a 20-year baseball umpire, David was always seeking a way to explain the interpretation of any rule for the coaches, players and fans who really didn’t understand the ruling on the field. During the 7 grueling weeks at the Academy, David financed and produced an HD Video baseball rulebook with video/audio/text examples of situations with accompanying explanations. While this idea percolated and sat on the shelf, David formed a team of engineers, marketers and former major league executives to join his team … developing and distributing a mobile app: The Baseball Rules Explorer. Currently partnered with Baseball Canada, and USA Baseball along with several US based leagues and umpire associations, Umpires Media created a certification test for umpires at all levels. David will share his curious and circuitous route and share how he built his platform and as an added bonus for all in attendance, David will screen many samples from the app allowing everyone a chance to be the umpire
We'll also discuss an overview of Chapter operations and our upoming events and activities in 2019.
