Where were you at 5:04 p.m., Oct. 17, 1989? Twenty-nine minutes before the first pitch of the World Series, Mother Nature delivered a knockdown pitch for the ages: the largest quake to strike a major American city in nearly a century.
The Day the World Series Stopped, a film by SABR member Jon Leonoudakis, takes viewers back in time and into the story of a typical fan attending the World Series. This film captures interviews with fans and the pre-game pageantry until the story makes a hard turn into history. Mixing archival news clips with personal footage and photographs, the film presents a visceral account of every heart-stopping moment at Candlestick Park that fateful night. (NR, 44 mins., 2014.)
A discussion with Leonoudakis follows the film. All baseball fans are welcome to attend this free event.
