Jones: Julia Ruth Stevens, Babe’s daughter, steps up to the plate and turns 100

From Lloyd Jones at the Conway Daily Sun on July 15, 2016:

Julia Ruth Stevens, daughter of the legendary New York Yankees slugger Babe Ruth, will turn 100 this Sunday.

One of baseball’s best ambassadors for nearly six decades, Stevens of Conway will have a party held in her honor on Saturday. Among the guests is expected to be John Henry, owner of the Boston Red Sox.

Though about to join the century club, Ruth’s daughter truly seems ageless. “I feel wonderful,” she said. “There are a lot of things that I love to do that I can still do. You see, I’m using a walker these days, but I still get around pretty good, just a little slower.”

Stevens was at Fenway on July 9, prior to Boston’s home game against Tampa Bay (Sox won 4-1). She received a Red Sox jersey with No. 100 on the back, and a thunderous standing ovation from the Fenway faithful. Her son Tom escorted her onto the field for the ceremonial first pitch.
