Peake: Oklahoma SABR group tours area Mantle sites
From Jason Peake at the Joplin Globe on July 1, 2017:
Hank Coiner loves to talk baseball — especially when it has to do with Mickey Mantle’s lasting legacy in the area.
A historian and author from Miami, Oklahoma, Coiner led a tour of the Joplin area’s Mantle-related baseball sites last Saturday for members of the Oklahoma chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).
“Several guys came up and I took them to various places in the area where Mantle had lived or played baseball,” Coiner said. “It was fun. They had a good impression of the area and I know they really enjoyed seeing Joplin.”
Coiner is also a member of SABR, a group founded in 1971 to provide an outlet for baseball research. Nationally, SABR has approximately 7,000 members, while the Oklahoma chapter has about 100 members.
