Pee Wee Reese Chapter: 2019 SABR Day meeting (Louisville, KY)

The Pee Wee Reese SABR Chapter will be holding its annual SABR Day meeting one week earlier than usual — on Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, 800 W. Main Street in Louisville, Kentucky. All baseball fans are welcome to attend!

We are pleased and excited to announce this very strong lineup of featured speakers:

(1) DR. DOUG WILSON on "Mr. Cub." Doug is a former college baseball player and a SABR member who has just written Let's Play Two: The Life and Times of Ernie Banks. He has also written biographies of Fred Hutchison, Mark Fidrych, Brooks Robinson and Carlton Fisk. His books have been finalists for the Casey Award and SABR’s Seymour Medal as the best baseball books of the year and The Bird was selected by the Library of Michigan as a Michigan Notable book for 2014. A U of L Med School grad, Wilson is an ophthalmologist and  lives in Columbus, Indiana.

(2) CORY RITTERBUSCH on "The Little Colonel." A member of the SABR-Wisconsin Chapter, Cory is  a lifelong baseball historian. As a child, he idolized Pee Wee Reese, and he has spent 30 years researching him. In 2018, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Reese's birth, Cory and his family travelled to Kentucky and spent a week visiting Reese landmarks, including many in Louisville. He plans to offer fresh perspectives on the intangibles and legacy of the baseball HOF'er after whom our Chapter is named. An ecologist, writer and historian, he hails from Shullsburg, Wisconsin.

(3) HARRY ROTHGERBER on the History of the Pee Wee Reese SABR Chapter. This will be an illustrated, unusual, entertaining and totally fresh look at SABR in Kentucky since 1984.

(4) GLEN SPARKS, also briefly on Pee Wee Reese. Glen Sparks is a freelance writer based in St. Louis who has recently signed a contract with McFarland to write a full-length biography about Pee Wee Reese. A SABR member, he is looking for additional sources who can help with background, anecdotes, personal stories, etc. If you have any such knowledge, he will love to hear from you on January 19.

Trivia Contest: 25 questions, with photos: Once again authored by local SABR member Dr. Jack Sullivan. Cash prizes to the winner and runner-up.

Many Door Prizes: Including a free one-year membership to a non-member, courtesy of the Pee Wee Reese Chapter.

Chapter Facebook Page: Check out our Chapter Facebook page, maintained by VP of Technology Ryan Schroer, for more information.
