Sarris: Is there a better way to throw a curveball? Some pros are aiming to find out

There​ are plenty​ of reasons to fall in love​ with​ the curveball. There’s​ the shape,​ first of all,​ and​ the​​ jelly-kneed reaction it inspires. There’s the fact that only the sinker coaxes more groundballs, and that, among secondary pitches, there’s no pitch that’s better for a called strike. It has been a baseball stalwart for years, for good reason.

But what if there was a superior way to throw the curve, one so different that some tracking websites broke it out into its own pitch type? Say hello to the knuckle curve.
