Schlossberg: Baseball deserves a second chance in Montreal

From SABR member Dan Schlossberg at Latino Sports on April 10, 2015:

Both Bud Selig, who spent 22 years as Commissioner of Baseball, and Rob Manfred, who succeeded him this year, mentioned the possibility of returning a franchise to Montreal.

The suggestion has more merit than many of their other ideas, such as expanded playoffs, daily doses of interleague play, and allowing the All-Star Game winner to have home-field advantage in the World Series.

Montreal not only deserves a team but has one ready and waiting: the Tampa Bay Rays.

Stuck in a bad ballpark on the St. Petersburg side of the bay, the Rays were rebuffed just recently when the local city council refused to allow a vote on a new stadium.

Hey, if St. Pete doesn’t want them, Montreal would only be too happy to take the floundering franchise north of the border.
