Schlossberg: Shorter playoffs means better results

Returning the season to its original 154-game format is a great idea.

The Players Association has already endorsed it and the new commissioner says he’ll consider it.

But both are missing the boat unless they agree to shorten the postseason too.

Under the current structure of two 15-team leagues, each with three five-team divisions, world champions must win as many as four playoff rounds. That’s tedious, tiresome, boring for all, not to mention dangerous for pitchers whose arms are already stretched beyond healthy limits.

The obvious answer is reducing the schedule.
