South Florida Chapter meeting (Tamarac, FL)

Our next South Florida Chapter meeting is set for 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the Tamarac Public Library Multi-purpose Room (8701 W. Commercial Blvd., Tamarac, Florida).

Serving as our keynote speakers will be Jose Ignacio Ramirez, author of Cuba and the "Last"  Baseball Season: The 1960-62 Story of Cubans' Baseball Players' Sacrifice in their Pursuit of a Professional Baseball Career, and prolific writer Lou Hernandez, author of Bobby Maduro and the Cuban Sugar Kings (his seventh book). Both Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Hernandez are fellow SABR members.

Hall of Famer Tony Perez has confirmed his attendance, as has former major-leaguer Gonzalo "Cholly" Naranjo and Jorge Maduro (son of Bobby). In addition, Miami radio personality Jose Pepe "Chamby" Campos will be introducing Mr. Ramirez. We look forward to it being a meeting where we will all be exchanging thoughts and ideas about the topics at hand, and listening to experiences from former hardball players.

The day will not end there. Returning by popular demand is Gerry Garte serving as our trivia master. He will be testing our baseball knowledge with his usual challenging trivia questions. Prize will be awarded.

We encourage our members to attend in support of fellow SABRites. We also ask family, friends, visitors and even non-members who may want to join SABR in the future for this momentous day. Spread the word! The event is free.
