Stark: Realignment, robots and the universal DH — how baseball will change during this decade

So maybe you didn’t get that new crystal ball for Christmas. Maybe your Magic 8 Ball is on the fritz. Maybe you can’t even find a decent fortune cookie. Well, never fear — because you have a subscription to The Athletic. And you know who can look deep into the future? We can.

It’s time to welcome you to the 2020s by predicting what’s to come in baseball over the crazy decade that lies ahead. It’s possible this sport may have changed more in the last 10 years than in the previous 50 combined. So imagine what the next 10 could look like.

We’ve spent the new year (so far) surveying people from all segments of the baseball universe on how they think baseball will evolve between now and 2029. The good news is: The game will still be recognizable. The bad news is: Not all of it will be recognizable – some of it because there’s this phenomenon called “technology” that seems to be catching on, some of it because this sport needs to change with the times, just like everyone and everything around it.

So what lies ahead in the ’20s?
