SABR's San Diego Ted Williams Chapter will hold its next meeting at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019, in the 8th-floor Sullivan Baseball Research Center at the San Diego Central Library (300 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101).
Admission is free and guests are welcome. Our speakers are expected to include:
Bob Bavasi: "Professional Baseball in Japan"
A USD law graduate and attorney, Bavasi has enjoyed a baseball career that ranges from minor-league team ownership, to organizing a collegiate baseball league, to starting a Japan baseball ticketing service and tour operation now in its 20th year. He will offer his observations on professional baseball in Japan.
Rocky Craig: "My Minor League Travels"
A San Diegan, Craig played six seasons in the minor leagues, ranging from the Rookie level to Triple-A. His playing took him to temporary homes in seven cities located in six states. His last season was with a Padres' farm team, the Amarillo Gold Sox, in 1976.
Roundtable discussion: "Making the Call... and Getting it Right"
What do you think about replay reviews? How about robotic strike zones? While we will not be able to resolve anything, this will be an open discussion to hear what you think about some of these new ideas that have been implemented in MLB and ones being evaluated in game action in the Atlantic League. Dan Boyle will moderate the discussion.
Parking is available in the Library's garage located under the building (free for two hours with validation; $1.25 for each 20 min thereafter). There are also several parking lots in close proximity to the Library and around Petco Park.
