Lou Gehrig Watching From the Dugout During Game 2 of the 1939 World Series
Description
A slide of a black-and-white photograph of Lou Gehrig standing in the dugout during Game 2 of the 1939 World Series, October 5, 1939. Gehrig is wearing a home New York Yankees uniform with pinstripes and NY on the left breast of the jersey. He is facing to the left of the frame with his right elbow resting on his bent right knee while his right leg is propped up on the dugout's top step. His chin is resting on his right hand. In his left hand, he holds a rolled-up piece of paper and is placed on his left hip. In the blurry background is another player in the dugout. The original caption accompanying the photograph found outside of the collection reads, "Lou Gehrig, Captain of the New York Yankees and hero of many a World Series Games [sic], is pictured at the Yankee Stadium here on October 5th, as he watched his teammates take on the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of the World Series."
