Description
A color slide of a photograph from the January 1963 edition of Sport magazine of Mickey Mantle. The photograph is part of the article "Mickey Mantle: Behind the pain and triumph" by Leonard Shecter. On the right-hand page Mantle is visible from the chest up, wearing a New York Yankees home uniform. In the background are empty lower and upper decks grandstands, and on the right of the picture, just over Mantle's left shoulder, is netting, which appears to be part of a batting cage. Only the rightmost part of the left-hand page is seen. That page includes a small black-and-white photograph of a young Mantle. On the far left of the photograph, about halfway down, there appears to be a tip of a finger holding the magazine open to that page.
