Mickey Mantle Batting Six Photo Sequence

Description

A slide of six sequential black-and-white full-length photographs of Mickey Mantle swinging left-handed. He is wearing a New York Yankee home uniform. From left-to-right, top row first, the individual photographs show: 1) Mantle has his hands loaded as he plants his front (right) foot, 2) Mantle begins the swing, with his hands coming across his torso as the bat head trails, 3) Mantle has moved the bat through the swing plane and has it extended forward as he pushes off his back foot, 4) Mantle's front leg is planted and his hands and bat obscure his face as the bat is parallel to his shoulders, 5) Mantle's left arm is fully extended as the bat head is pointing away from the pitcher, and 6) the follow-through ends as Mantle's weight is on his bent front leg and his hands have rotated the bat all the way to his back. Above the photographs is a caption that reads, "(NY15-March 1--OH,O--NUMBER SEVEN--In the days before James Bond (007) became popular, the number seven was readily associated with a certain New York Yankee—Mickey Mantle. The Yankee superstar, who retired today after 18 years as a Yankee, is shown in this batting sequence in 1956 at Yankee Stadium. He won the triple crown that year and was named the American League’s Most Valuable Player. His playing number also will be retired.(AP Wirephoto)(See AP Sports Wire Story)(ic71725fls) 1969".
