Babe Ruth Plaza Dedication
Description
A slide of a black-and-white, full-length photograph of the dedication of Babe Ruth Plaza. Claire Ruth, dressed in a black dress, is to the right-center of the photograph, with her right hand touching the plaza marker. The marker consists of a pole cemented to the ground. On top of the pole is a baseball-field-shaped marker with the words "BABE RUTH" written where the outfield would be. A baseball player is in a left-handed batter's stance in the middle of the marker. Directly to Claire's right is James Lyons, president of the Bronx borough. He is wearing a dark suit. Behind Claire, to her right, is Joe DiMaggio. He is wearing a home New York Yankees uniform. To the left of the marker stands Bernard Lynch, of the office of the Bronx borough president. He is wearing a lighter suit than James Lyons. Standing behind him is Jim Turner, coach of the Yankees. He is also wearing a home Yankees uniform. Standing behind everyone and surrounding the marker are other members of the 1949 Yankees. Information written on the physical slide reads, "Mrs. Ruth dedicates Babe Ruth Plaza, Bronx" See ruthba01_22.
